1. Is there such a thing as submitting too many submissions?
It is entirely up to you how many directories you decide to submit your web site to and in what space of time. You can submit them all in one day if you want to. Each directory will take a period of time before they send you an email of approval, some links you will receive within a few days, whilst others may take up to 90 days before you know. Also you have to be aware that not all directories provide links. So, no matter how quickly you submit your details to the directories the links will come back at different times over a period of time.

2. What is a Directory Submission?
Everyone is familiar with the telephone or yellow pages directories. They contain lists of people or businesses, sorted alphabetically or by category. An internet directory is basically the same, but they are known as web directories or online directories and they list websites by category.
To have your website listed in one of these web directories you have to first submit it to the directory. If you don’t submit your website to various directories, users will not be able to locate your site unless they come across it by accident or enter the full website URL. Submitting your website details to an online directory is called ‘directory submission’.

3. If I submit to 500 directories, does that mean I'll get 500 links?
We only ensure that your site details are submitted correctly and successfully. Whether your link is put up on every directory we submit to is dependent on the directory owner. Every directory owner has their own criteria for approving sites and your link may or may not be put up.
This why google uses these links; not everybody will get the same results; it mainly depends on the quality of your site. as long you have a good site, you'll get a high approval ratio, lot's of good links and so achieve high rankings in the SERP's (search engine result pages).

4. How will I know whether my sites have actually been submitted?
Most directories send an email acknowledging that your site has been submitted to their directory and since we enter your email address during the submission process, you would be receiving all these emails. Do note that not all directories send emails but quite a few do and some directories even send emails to inform you whether your link has been approved or rejected.

Submissions typically take 4-6 working days from the date of payment. The process begins 2-3 days after payment and typically takes 2 to 3 days to complete.

If your links are approved and put up, they should be on the directory for as long as the directory exists.

Your ranking will not increase as soon as you receive links from a directory. The search engines will take some time to locate and index the links and the process can be slow. Once you have made some submissions, keep on submitting to new directories and continue building links. If you stop making submissions, your ranking could go down. Link building is not the only method of building relevant links, but it is the most efficient and reliable.

10. How can I find my Directory Links?
If you want to locate your links you can try searching for them through the search engines. To find the link in a particular directory go to the search engines search box and type in +"aaa.com"site:zzz.com (where aaa is your domain name and zzz is the directory’s domain name).
If you want an idea of how many links you received from a range of directories, then type into Google’s search box +"aaa.com"+directory -site:www.aaa.com. This will carry out a search for those pages that contain the word ‘directory’ and your website URL (aaa.com) together, not including your own site. This number won’t be exact, as all the directories pages might not have been indexed as yet. Also you need to have allowed enough time between directory submissions and approvals before carrying out any such search or you will be wasting your time.

11. Are Directories and Link Farms the same?
A link farm and a directory are two completely different things. A link farm is not a directory; it is a website that lists links. These links are not in categories or sorted into any kind of order. Absolutely any website can be listed on a link farm as there is no method of reviewing the website and so there are many low quality websites found here.
In comparison, a web directory lists and places websites into suitable categories and sub categories. To have your website listed in a web directory it is necessary to give certain details including titles, a description and keywords. They then have to have a manual review before being approved. These are quality directories.

12. What is the point of submitting my site to a directory with a low PR?
The PR, or PageRank, of the directory isn’t too important. No directories PR is ever the same, it changes frequently. Directories with a PR of 0 or 1 might just be new and, given time, could achieve a much higher PR, so they are all worth submitting to. Another reason to submit to a low PR directory now, is that in the future the PR of the directory could increase substantially; they might then become a paid directory. If you miss your chance to submit for free now, you could miss out on a potential valuable link or end up paying to list with them.

13. Can I influence where my website is located in the directory?
If you have submitted to a free directory, once your website has been approved the site’s link is placed under the category most applicable. It can be quite difficult to locate your site’s link within the directory; it is a case of searching through the whole of that category to locate it. There are some aspects that seem to affect where a listing might be placed in a directory, these include the number of hits the website receives, it’s PageRank, alphabetical order and the date it was accepted in the directory.
Mostly, it’s not just a case of one thing or another that affects the link placement. If more than one website has the same PR, then another criterion has to be followed and so it is not a clear area as to what exactly influences link placement.

For instance, if a particular directory requires for you to submit only an 'Official Title', we use only your official title (that's why we ask you to enter the 'company name' when adding a site in our system). 15. Some directories look the same. Should I bother submitting to both?
There are some directories that look alike with similar layouts and categories. Directory templates can be found online and the likelihood is they have just used the same one. Each has their own guidelines and editorial staff who review each website so don’t think just because they look the same then it is not worth the bother of submitting to both. The links you receive from them will vary in value and be seen separately by the search engines. They may look the same, but valuable links can still be obtained from both.

16. Is it true that no-one bothers with Directory Submissions any longer?
There are various reports that go around from time to time regarding the importance and value of directory submissions. The bottom line is that as long as the links you have are from quality directories they are definitely valued by the search engines. It is the low quality directories that give all directories a bad name.
