The Value of Deep Linking Directory Submissions
Most services are too lazy to actually check the web directory sites 1 by 1 to research which ones allow deep-links. So they say it can’t be done. This while almost half of the directories accept deep-links.
If you have never looked into it, you’ll surely will be surprised to learn how much effect it has to get links to as many pages of your site as possible.
In fact, you could calculate it yourself with this pagerank calculator. Where it comes down to is that each page that has at least 1 single link will gain a lot more PR. Not just from that link, but also from your other pages of your site. Each time google finds a new link it will recalculate the PR of each page for all pages connected to the page with the new link. By having links to multiple pages, google will recalculate the PR for all pages again and again, which results in much higher PR for your entire site.
Now, to get those deep-links is in fact not that hard. Although the average approval ratio for deep-link directory submission is much lower as for the homepage, this has usually to do with too long URL’s and too little content on the deep-link page. Still, each and every link you do get out of it with help your overall PR and rankings significantly. Not only for the keywords targeted for the specific page, but for all your pages. Why? Well, the pages on your site getting new links also link to other pages on your site and those links count just as well, and as the page has gained some extra value from the new link, so will the other pages you’re linking to from that page. All this PR flowing around your site will cumulate.
Still, let me mention this just as well, although it hasn’t to do with PR, it surely counts for your rankings; organize your keywords in sets, assign them to 1 page per set and stick to it! Too many people think they can get 1 page to rank for the whole list of keywords they could come up with. That’s just not how it works. Keep it limited!
We maintain a list of 500 web directory sites that allow deep-link directory submission and have a minimum of PR1 on their homepage. So if you pick 20 pages of your site that have something interesting g to offer; trying to get a link for an empty page would of course be a waste, you can do 25 submissions for each. As it takes a couple of months for the directories to review all the submissions, it also takes time of course to see the effect of it. But for sure slowly, but steady you’ll see the amount of visitors raise. Maybe not so for your very top-keyword phrases, but for sure for a long, long list of long tail keywords. Which usually are your best visitors; they know what they’re looking for and they’re very likely to also actually buy something, versus people who use the top-keywords, who are usually only looking for information and only cost you bandwidth.
If you don’t have enough decent content pages to use for deep-linking, you should start with landing pages. Write at least 5 pages, each with their own, unique and limited set of keywords and put them online, so you have at least 5 url’s of 5 decent pages to use for your deep-linking. This way you can then pass on the PR you gain for it to other pages by using embedded links on those landing pages.
