Blog Comment Research Service

Since most blog's have the rel=nofollow tag on the comment links, which means google will not follow the link, it simply doesn't make any sense to just comment in any blog you might find related to your site.

You really, really need to start with a list of blog's that give you direct DoFollow links!

We use many different tactics to find the blog's that are actually worth it to post comments in.

To start with we research in google's blogsearch.
We combine as well your keywords as keyterms. Keyterms are words that are very specific for your market; professional jargon. The more exclusively to your own topic the words we use the easier it is to find related blog's; for example: very technical terms; the kind of words people would only use whenever they're indeed writing about your market. Point being; otherwise most blog's showing up in the SERP's are most likely on the page, but that doesn't mean the page, and especially not the blog is indeed related to yours.

Then we check the links of your competition.
For this we use your actual keywords, check in google who's ranking for them on the top positions and check their links. This is a bit like fishing; not all of your competitors will have blog links, but those who do will give us a good list of blog's to look at.

Authority sites of your market/topic;
For example: Wikipedia; many blog's link to specific pages within Wikipedia about the topic. Another example; sites of official associations within your market; the official 'clubs', sites that handle legal issues, government websites and so on, in other words; sites that are non-commercial within your market.

Other people making comments in the blog's.
Plenty of website owners out there who know about blog comments as well, and although they're not yet showing up in the top of rankings where we found your competitors, they might actually have more and better blog links, and so we follow them as well to see which blog's they're using.

Link lists, most blog have a blogroll - links to related blog's
This is usually the easiest way to find more related blog's, but unfortunately, that doesn't mean those are good blog's.

Now, all of this is just to compile a list of blog's, now we still need to check the quality of these blog's.

Fortunately we have a program for this: Fast Blog Finder <- direct link to free trial download.

You can use it yourself if you want; just make sure you actually read the manual, otherwise you'll end up checking tons of blog's that are not related at all and you're still wasting your time.

The program checks for many different technical elements;

  • First of all for DoFollow of course
    • (there's not such a thing as a DoFollow-tag; it's just the easy way to say; 'no use of the rel=nofollow tag')
  • PR of the actual page
    • Not just the homepage PR, as that doesn't matter, it's only the PR of the page where you get your link from that counts
  • PR of the blog domain - homepage
    • We might find a low PR page in the initial research, but if the homepage has a significant PR, we might find other pages with a high PR in the blog.
  • Total amount of outgoing links per page
    • The PR actually gets divided by the amount of other outgoing links! This is very important; if PR5 page has 10 other outgoing links you get 10% of the value, if it has 50 other outgoing links you get only 2% of the PR5 value! That's a big difference and the reason why we don't use pages with already more than 50 other comments on them. Although we don't count site-wide links, because google doesn't either ...
    • To add a link to a page with more than 100 other outgoing links is pointless, as it is assumed that Google stops indexing the links after it has reached 100 links.
  • Most recent comment;
    • To make sure the blog is still frequently maintained; otherwise it's very likely that nobody will ever see and approve your comment.

Without this program we would never be able to offer this service.
If we would have to check the technicalities of hundreds of blog's manually it would take us days and days of very hard work for little results as only a very, very small percentage of the blog's out there are actually worth commenting on.

Still, the results are not perfect, 2 most common problems;

  • Whenever the program checks a blog page without any comments on it yet, it will mark it as being DoFollow, while it could be that it's in fact a nofollow.
  • Not related; no matter how hard we try to research to related blog's only, a rather big part of them will turn out not to be related after all.

So, we have to check the list we get from the program 1 by 1 manually. But ok, at that point we went from a couple of thousand blog pages to about 100-200, which is obviously still a lot of work, but at least it's reasonable to do this.

So, then we need to visit those blog's one by one to check for the same factors again. While checking the blog pages manually to see if they're indeed related and give DoFollow links, we will also check for more;

  • We give them points for being related and of course delete those that are not.
  • Same for the ones that don't have comments on them yet; we check other pages of the blog with comments on them to see whether or not they and delete those that turn out to be nofollow
  • Not all blog actually give a direct link; the link will go to a profile page, as long the profile allows a bio and direct links to your web site, then the blog can still be useful
  • Many blog's are part of a bigger community; MyBlogLog of yahoo for example, some have KeywordLUV; they allow keywords for the links and a few more as that are valuable extras.
  • Some need login; many expect you to do a minimum amount of comment before they turn of the nofollow
  • Trackbacks; if you have a blog of your own you really want this information, it is like an automated link-exchange between your own blog and the blog that accepts the trackback.
  • Link drop; some allow links within the comment, we could drop a link here, but it is risky, so we don't do that the first, only when you're already accepted by the blog owner and when it is really appropriate
  • Keywords; most blog's don't accept keywords in the link; they want a name, but some do; we love these blog's!

How many blog's we will eventually have left totally depends on the topic.

Some markets are overwhelmed with blog's, and even so most of them are not worth submitting to, we'll find enough for you to run a successful blog commenting campaign. Other markets are almost excluded from blog's, or only personal blog's - read; blogspot or blogger accounts - all nofollow!

So, no matter how much blood, sweat and tears we invest in your blog research, if the blog's ain't out there, we can't find them ... unfortunately.

If the results are really poor we will do more results for a broader topic; for example; for my topic, the most related keywords are 'blog commenting' etc. so if we really can't find anything worth it, we go searching 1 level higher; link building, then we can go even higher; SEO-services etc. but at all times it has to be related; first requirement.

Still; this will surprise you, but in fact; the less blog's we find the better ... really!

Why? Well, the more blog's we find, the more competition you obviously have; the more options your competitors also have - in other words the more comment Postings it will take to outrank your competitors! This while in smaller markets where there are only a few really good blog's, you might actually be the only one commenting in all of them, because we'll find them for you!

But ok, not to worry, unless you are actually active in a very, very competitive market; for most sites a list of just 2-5 really good blog's with high PR is enough to get incredible great results from the actual commenting. This because we're able to comment on more than just 1 of the pages, we can comment on many pages as long they have high PR and are indeed related.

Point being; if we can't find a lot of high PR blog's, then neither can your competition, so as long we do find those that apply to you, you'll be able to outrank your competitors with it.

Worst case scenario; if we really can't find any related, high PR blog's which give DoFollow links and actually review comments to approved whatsoever. We have a list of 'back-up' blog's, like Britannica. We will then research in those blog's related pages, so you do get at least those links for the money you paid, but then that's it. We can't do a serious long term blog comment campaign without related blog's specific for your topic/market/site/keywords.

Once we have that list we can finally start commenting.

Although not really. The first 20 comments we make are still part of the research, as we need to test those blog's, even when they look great based on the technical elements we've checked, there's only 1 way to find out if the comments get approved; make a test comment. It's not always up to us; many blog's out there are build for SEO-purposes only, and although our long quality comments give them an additional value, many don't seem to be aware of that and simply don't accept comments from anybody.

Also; we'll find also related pages; so not the whole blog, but just some of the pages are related, as long they have PR etc, we should comment, as it will help your rankings, but usually we can just make a few comments and then it's done. We don't research for those pages, we research for related blog's, as they have more value and we can make more comments, but as we have the pages, we might as well get you that link.

One more; from time to time we find blog's that are very, very related, but don't have much PR, just PR1-2 on most pages, but not many comments or even no comments at all. Many times those blog owners are very happy to finally get some comments and they approve very fast and easy, even when we use anchor text links and write a rather short comment. So, although they have low PR, as long the blog's are indeed very related, allow the use of anchor text links and approve short comments we can use them as well. Therefore we have different prices for the blog commenting; the links you get from those blog's will help your rankings thanks to the anchor text (=keywords) and we can do a lot of them much faster. So those we also include.

Still, even before we can get started we need to set up a Yahoo account for you to use the additional benefits of 'MyBlogLog' and use it for blog's that use 'openID' as a login system. There are different openID services, Yahoo's MyBlogLog is one of them. MyBlogLog is a service from yahoo that will gather all the different comments you have made in your own account where again you get an extra link(s) to your site. While it also makes it easier to login and get comments approved much faster.

That's when we're finally done with the research and we'll send you the file; we keep all the blog's in there, even the crappy ones, this to prevent we might research the same blog's later on again and again.

At this point all you really get is the list of blog's, and some links, but that's not our first aim in this stage. We're it all comes down to is that we can now start commenting in those blog's weekly, as that's how it needs to be done. How many comments we can do depends on the results and of course your budget.

All of this being said; the improvement of your rankings in the SERP's (search engine result pages) thanks to the high valuable links you'll be able to get from blog commenting is so effective that you'll have the $250 you have to invest in the research back in no time. Promised!
